Day 1 – Arrive in Playa del Carmen and meet your tour director.
Playa del Carmen is popular resort town famed for its coral reef and sparkling warm waters. Your leader will talk you through the itinerary and give you a quick orientation walk around this amazing town before trying a delicious Mexican dinner.
Day 2 – Depart early towards Merida, learning some Spanish from your leader on the way and stopping at Chichen Itza, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, for a guided tour.
Continue on to Merida, where your leader will take you on an orientation walk upon arrival. Wander the streets and take in the colonial buildings, learn about the town’s Maya heritage and visit Mercado 60, a buzzing food market with international and local fare, and live music.
Day 3 – Today you will be visiting the Celestun Bird Sanctuary where, depending on the season, you can catch a flamboyance of flamingos painting pink streaks across the landscape. You will take a boat ride in which you can admire the local flora and fauna and take in the magical islands and secluded beaches in Celestun before arriving to the amazing site of hundreds of flamingos.
Day 4 – Today you have a free morning in Mérida to have breakfast, buy some souvenirs and take in the last city experience of this trip. You will now be fully immersed in nature, in the most beautiful sites of Yucatan. You’ll transfer five hours to Calakmul and have dinner at the hotel. There’s no town center in Calakmul as it’s a remote archaeological site located deep in the jungle, have a good night’s rest as tomorrow you have an early start.
Day 5 – Visit the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve to explore the incredible Maya site. This World Heritage site is part of the largest area of tropical forest after the Amazon and played an important role in the region’s history for over 1200 years. The well-preserved structures are surrounded by thick jungle teeming with exotic creatures and you’ll have time to explore this lost city for yourself once the tour finishes.
Day 6 – Transfer 2.5 hours to the laidback town of Bacalar. Stop at Cenote Azul on the way, a beautiful fresh-water rockpool, and swim in the perfect blue water while marveling at the stalactites and stalagmites.
Your leader will take you on an orientation walk around town and to a local restaurant for a delicious dinner.
Day 7 – Today you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the Lagoon of Seven Colors. You will have a kayaking session in the lagoon enjoying the sun and the water. Bacalar is the perfect place for relaxation and seclusion, and the colors are the most amazing, make sure to take many pictures to share back home. Today is for you to relax and enjoy some fun in the sun!
Day 8 – Today you travel to Valladolid, a beautiful colonial town which embraces all of Yucatan’s charm. With delicious food, friendly atmosphere, and incredible weather, after arriving you will have a walking tour to visit and explore the town’s charming colonial era churches and architecture.
In the afternoon, before dinner, you will see the local artists playing lively music at the towns main square.
Day 9 – Take a short drive towards the beautiful coastal town of Tulum – a place of gorgeous seas, blindingly bright sand and ancient ruins. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya and stood at the height of its progress during the 13th and 15th centuries.
Before arriving to Tulum, we will visit the beautiful site of Cobá. This great Mayan archeological site dates from 600-900 A.D. and there were an estimated 100,000 people living in its domain. You will explore the grounds of the site with the opportunity to ride bikes from one site to the next.
Day 10 – Your trip comes to an end today. Your group transfer will take you to Cancun’s International airport about 40 mins away from your hotel.
