Two Week Homestay & Sailing Program in Halifax, NS
July or August, 2017
Spend two weeks living with a host family and learning basic sailing concepts through games and activities on and off the water. The sailing course includes water safety, knots, rigging and capsizing. Additional activities include swimming, beach activities and weekly theme days.
Day 1 – Arrival in Halifax, Nova Scotia and transfer to your host family
Day 2 – You will begin each day of the sailing program by being dropped off at the Yacht Club docking facilities at 8:50 am. Your host family will provide you with a bag lunch each day. Begin with a basic orientation and introduction to the basics of sailing. You will be picked up at 4 pm and return to your host family for dinner and free time in the evening.
Day 3 – Spend another day learning to sail. Most days you will be on the water for 1 to 1.5 hours in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Day 4 – Enjoy another day of sailing lessons. If it happens to be too windy to sail, you will take part in other outdoor activities.
Day 5 – Return to the Yacht Club for more sailing lessons. If it is too rainy to have outdoor activities, you will study theory lessons inside and watch a movie.
Day 6 – End your week with another day of sailing lessons.
Day 7 – Enjoy a free day with your host family or take some time to explore Halifax.
Day 8 – Spend another free day with your host family.
Day 9 through 13 – Take part in the second week of sailing lessons at the Yacht Club. By the end of the course, you will comfortably be able to sail around a course with a partner.
Day 14 – Enjoy one last free to do some last minute shopping.
Day 15 – Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Minimum group size of 10 students
Students aged 13 – 17 at the time of arrival
2 or more years of English language study
An open and flexible attitude, which will allow the student to adapt to the camp and family environments
Students must be able to swim a minimum distance of 25 metres

Local supervision during the whole program and local orientation
